Miss Sandglass 17/1 is the only horned heifer in this sale. We purchased a pregnant recipient in the 2021 Brahmans at the Camellia Sale from Dubina Rose Ranch that resulted with this heifer. Little did we know that 4 months later we would occupy their ranch and partner with them on their existing genetics. The first thing that draws you to this heifer is her phenotypic totality as she is moderate framed, heavy structured, deep ribbed, thick ended, level designed, and feminine. The students of the breed will realize that 17/1 boasts a pedigree that consists of the top genetics from the legendary V8 & J.D. Hudgins Ranches. The sire to 17/1 is Mr. V8 137/8 who consistently placed at the top of his class for V8 Ranch before being purchased by Rancho Roger of Mexico. As you might expect based on his dark color 137/8 is sired by the # 1 Register of Renown Sire in the breed +Mr. V8 380/6 and out of +Miss V8 997/5 who was one of V8 Ranch’s top donors with 88 registered progeny to include a National Champion son, an International Sale High Seller, and numerous other influential offspring.
The dam to 17/1 is JDH Lady Kalani Manso 897/6 who was Dubina Rose’s pick of the 2015 J.D. Hudgins Fall “Traditions” Online Sale and then purchased by Jake Mathew’s KI Cattle Company. In addition to her practical phenotype 897/6 is extremely fertile breeding at 21 months of age and averaging 15 embryos on 4 IVF aspirations. This fertility should be expected due to her maternally oriented pedigree that includes 5 Maternal Merit or Maternal Performance Sires. Lastly, she is a proven producer with one son being named the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo All Breeds High Grading Brahman Bull and several daughters being sale features. It should be known that V8 Ranch purchased embryos from 897/6 and has a heifer that has been retained.
