Lot 26 - KADE HEBERT - STEERS

Hi I am Kade Hebert and this year I raised two market steers. I have been raising steers for the past 4 years but this year was a little different. In the past I have been fortunate enough to get steers that have already been halter broke or were just naturally gentle and easy to handle. This year though a rank one came through my barn. He always had an eye on you and did not trust you one bit. I named him “Offset” because he always seemed a little off.  As I started working with him little by little I realized this would not be an easy task to halter-break this calf. The days went on and the more frustrated I got but I knew if I stayed patient I could get him where he needed to be. Countless times I was ready to give up but the hours spent down at the barn rubbing all over him and scratching him with the show stick finally paid off. After about a month or two of having him he finally gave me his trust and all of my patience had paid off. As the show neared my excitement grew because I was ready to get “Offset” in the ring and show everyone my hard-work and how far he has come. When I found out there were thoughts about cancelling the show I got very nervous but when they finalized cancelling it I was devastated. I felt as if I had worked so hard all year for nothing.
