Grade 7 - TURKEYS - Hello my name is Carson Crowley. I am in the 7th grade and have been showing market turkeys for the past five years. Raising turkeys is a long but exciting project! We get our turkeys in November. When we first get them we feed them a turkey starter crumble. Turkey starter has 30% protein which chicks need in order to grow. We put electrolytes in the waters for the first six weeks. The electrolytes help support hydration and bird health. Taking care of the turkeys is not something you do when you want to or when you feel like it. I go out to the pen before school after school after you eat dinner and right before bed. You have to make sure they have clean waters fresh feed and the pen is clean at all times. This year I have more knowledge when it comes to picking a good bird. This is definitely a year that I will always remember!
