Rio Cherokee 1/356 is an old school Red Brahman sire bred by the world renown Cherokee Ranch from San Saba, TX & owned by Cy Yoakum and later my old ole buddy Tom Dean. It was Mr. Yoakum that had the breeding philosophy that we use here at La Muneca very often and that is that a progressive breeder should introduce a drip of new blood every year and if it works, turn into a drop the next year and if not try a new drip.
We bought this semen in an AJBA Fund Raiser many years ago and have never used it. We saw V8 Ranch sell a son of this bull named +Ward’s 2/34 for $25,000+ at a Johnny Joyce Brahman Clinic sale in the 80’s. He sired lots of good ones that put him in the ABBA Register of Renown.
1/356’s pedigree reads like a Who’s Who of the 1946 Brazilian imports. It is straight Cherokee, Garcia & Brazilian Imports with his dam being a line bred Arauto*. The * stands for Brazilian Import. His sire was the famous Cherokee Vernon 489 used by U. S. Sugar that later put HK on the map. His dam went back to the imported Gaucho* and his sire went back to the imported Rio Negro*. We recommend trying a drip of this old blood and if it works turn into a drop.
