The José “Joe” Correa Scholarship was created seven years ago to honor a great man, Mr José “Joe” Correa who served as Mission CISD’s Ag teacher for 34 years and was was also very instrumental in starting the FFA program at Mission Veteran’s High School. To date, $21,500 has been raised and awarded evenly to Mission High School and Mission Veteran’s FFA Ag students.

Mr. Correa hailed from San Perlita, TX. After graduating from Texas A&I University, now known as Texas A&M-Kingsville, he jumped at the opportunity to fulfill his dream of being an FFA Ag teacher when an opening became available in Mission, Texas. He and his wife, Olga, would settle and raise five children that attended Mission CISD schools. Eight years ago, the José “Joe” Correa Ag Farm was named in his honor. Mr. “C” or Mr. “Joe”, as he was affectionately called, served as a father figure to thousands of students during his tenure as Ag teacher.

He taught, he disciplined and he most importantly, he loved. He taught the values of a trade, an education and life. The countless hours he dedicated to his craft and his students are still alive today. Mr. Correa embodied FFA. He was very well known Valley-wide, State-wide and within several cattle industries. The relationships he forged back then, continue today to honor this man’s legacy for future FFA student generations to come. As stated in www.inffa.org, the FFA Motto gives members gives 12 words to live by as they experience the opportunities in the organization, “Learning to Do, Doing to Learn, Earning to Live, Living to Serve” He did just that…

The Carlos X. Guerra Family is donating a Guided Afternoon and Morning Management Buck Hunt with an overnight stay at their San Antonia Deer Camp with a steak dinner and Chorizo de San Manuel Breakfast for one hunter and one guest. Hunter can harvest one management buck, one doe and two javelinas.

Mr Joe was a mentor to me and thousands of others even though I went to school in Edinburg. When he spoke everyone listened. We have supported this Scholarship since it started and encourage others to donate to the cause by contacting Romeo Gonzales at  956-212-4540. THANK YOU for your support.
